South to Kasos ( Rhodes - Kasos)

2nd Oct 2019 (Rhodes - Kasos)

Woke to the sound of the kettle being put on, and a gleeful report from that West Ham wanker Martin that ‘We won’t talk about Tottenham today’ (lost 7-2 to Bayern Munich). That was at 5:30am

We’re leaving our current anchorage on the Southern tip of Rhodes before dawn to avoid being bombed by the Greek army.

Chez took us out as I upped anchor and the three of us headed off in the darkness.

Stars faded as the sun gradually rose over the water (Chez spotting the first little blob of orange, and by doing so ensured her Mugabe style ongoing title of Tasos for yet another day... she’ll no doubt be moaning about not being shown enough respect and due deference again tomorrow).

We dropped lures off the back, hoping for a slightly better result than usual: no fish / lost lure is the norm at present.

We were able to sail with little motor assistance for the first 2 hours, but wind dropped to leave us motoring on glasslike water.

During one of the rollier moments, our terracotta succulents went flying - bad, but not disastrous: plants not too badly damaged, but the pot was beyond the healing power of Araldite, and has now been cast into the deep.

Chez and Martin headed up to the bow to enjoy the day, and almost immediately cried ‘Dolphins!’

We were joined by a large pod, frolicking around the boat for 5mins or so, including some bow surfing and some wonderful jumps out of the water - as ever: always very special to see.

Took 2hr turns at the helm, with the off duty crew pottering or snoozing as they saw fit. Currently mid way through my watch - better go, Blue Star ferry is bearing down on us!

Later update: tried to cheer Martin up as he’d been a bit quiet for an hour or so (actually sleeping), by giving him a little toot on the whistle - he didn’t appreciate it at all! Grumpy sod!

Continued on our way to the town of Fry on Kasos, tacked a few times to get there, and motored a little when the wind wasn’t favourable. Tied to the quay, side on - first time this season.

Martin and I strolled into the sleepy town, while Chez took some well earned rest and had a wash and freshen up.

Visited by a very pleasant Port Policeman who joined us on board to check all our docs. Headed to dinner at Milos - and wrote this as I waited for the food to arrive.

Edit: food was good and plentiful, As were the local cat population
